Why have an evaluation?

If you are concerned with your child’s development in any area, it is generally a good idea to bring your concerns to your pediatrician. He or she will likely refer you to your local early intervention agency. However, you do not need a doctor’s referral to get an evaluation. You may call your local early intervention agency in your area to schedule an evaluation.

If you are concerned about your child, but are hesitant to call, because you think there is a chance your child is not eligible, it is still a good idea to set up an evaluation. If your child does not qualify, you are still given information about your child’s specific development as well as strategies on how to enhance his/her development.
